We are so delighted to say that El Shaddai has opened a new center in Chintadripet a locality in Chennai, India.  Chintadripet area has one of the biggest Slums in Chennai, the slum is a habitat to more than 10,000 people. The slum contains nearly 500 huts in an area of 1 km. Each hut provides a space only for two persons.

The slum dwellers reside in an unhygienic place with no proper shelter facilities. People are working on daily wages and work in fish market. Most of the children do not attend school, we also found many children who were malnourished. People are suffering from different kinds of infectious diseases. Hence we considered starting a Centre in the midst of this deprived slum so that El Shaddai can reach out and support the slum dwellers living in various desperate situations.

On 18th of July 2015 we inaugurated our New Project named ‘Dream Centre’. We had a special inauguration event at Chintadripet. The ribbon cutting ceremony was done by Adv. Thomas Jacob (Trustee of El Shaddai) and Matthew Kurian (cofounder of El Shaddai). The programme started with a welcome song and Mr Matthew honored the guests for the event by presenting them with a shawl. The dignitaries lighted the lamp. NLAG Senior Pr. D. Mohan gave an introductory message to the masses and Special greetings were given by various dignitaries namely Mr Jawahar Peter (Chintadaripet Police Inspector), Mr.M.Pandiyan (Area Councilor), Mr Sony Thomas (World Vision Group Director), Ps. C Victor, Ps T Jacob, Local Pastor and the Area Political leader also attended. Adv. Thomas Introduced the El Shaddai work. Mr. Matthew Kurian announced the New Centre Name and gave the vote of thanks.
Children performed special dance and conducted the inauguration rally. Around 300 people attended the programme. John Thomas has been taking care of this project along with 2 staff. We hope to reach out to hundreds of children in this area with basic education, extra coaching classes and nutritous food. We will be empowering slum women and youg youth by offering adult litercy classes, vocational classes and helping them to be successful. We will organize veccinaiton camps, health camps and workshops on teaching the people about importance of hygine and cleanliness, management of their finances, birth control, importance of education in their children's lives etc.
