Anita (Name changed) was born in Goa and has been residing at the Monti Dongor slum in Margao. Her family background is very poor. They stay in a very small hut. Her father is a laborer and her mother goes to work as a maid - house to house so that she can help her father make ends meet. Anita has two siblings and she is the youngest among them. Anita felt sad every time she looked at the economic condition of her family. Her brothers could not study as her parents could not afford to send them to school. One day, as she was wondering in the Moti Dongor community she met one of the slum school teachers. She was then informed of the presence of the El Shaddai AGNC centre and the activities that it carries out. Though Anita was schooling and was in the sixth standard she did not know a single word of English. This was in 2012. Now Anita is in ninth standard and can read and write English so well. She can carry out conversations not only with her class mates but also with her teachers. Anita is glad that she met AGNC teachers and today for what she has become she will always be thankful. Anita has the ambition to be a teacher and be able to teach many other children. There are hundreds of children like Anita who can today read, write and communicate well because of the education that they receive from El Shaddai Charitable Trust.
The El Shaddai Charitable Trust is a registered, non-profit Charity working in Goa and other States in India, implementing the Child Rights Act 2003/05 for orphans, street children and children coming from economically and socially marginalised conditions. The children are cared for and provided with food, clothing, shelter and education, for a better future. El Shaddai runs residential Homes, Day Care Centres and Community Centres. El Shaddai also runs cottages for children who have been with us and now attending University, Colleges, Technical Institutions and Professional Training Centres. Some of the children are working with the organisation as Trainees and Staff also live in the cottages. Our other programme - Meals on Wheels, - Manna Khana free food distribution programme is implemented on week days. Manna Khanna is a takeaway packet that is provided for around 275 poor, needy children and adults living on the streets in Goa. The slum schools and the slum outreach programme provide educational facilities and Community health camps for the children and women.
Your continuous support is highly appreciated towards the work of El Shaddai Charitable Trust/
