Our team at Stepping stones, Margao, organized "Grandparents Day" a few days ago at the shelter. It's aim was to teach the children to respect aged people. We invited all the grandparents of our shelter and the slum children.
The celebrations began with the lighting of lamps by all the grandparents. The guest who so lit the lamps included Shri Damodar Naik (Ward Councilor), Shri Pramod Phonde (Chief editor of Goan Vaartha Newspaper), Shri Ramesh (Sub Inspector of Railway police station) and Shrimati Dilshad Meghani (Friend of ESCT).
All our senior children presented flowers and welcomed all our guests. The children performed dances and a skit was put up themed to inspire respect to the aged people in our community. The children also organized games for the grandparents.
The guest spoke a few words and inspired the children to respect all our elders and aged people as, in their own words, they are a blessing to us.
About 30 adults and 80 children were present for this event where snacks and gifts were also presented to the grandparents
