Welcome To A New Academic Year At Nucleo

We’re thrilled to have you with us as we begin another exciting year of music-making and learning. Thanks to your continued support, Nucleo has grown over the past 12 years from a handful of students to now welcoming over 400 students aged 0 to 20 to weekly music sessions.

Even without advertising, Nucleo’s popularity continues to flourish. Throughout the year – especially in the autumn – we offer as many places as we can, helping to reduce our waiting list. Yet demand remains high: at the time of writing, over 500 young people are still hoping to hear from us. Some of the lucky ones joining this year had waited nearly three years for their chance to start their musical journey with us.

Accepting a place after such a long wait shows incredible determination and eagerness to learn. This commitment is also reflected in our students’ attendance: since September 2023, average attendance across all ensembles has been over 80%, even though the minimum attendance requirement can be up to four times per week. As one parent shared: “My child’s confidence grew tremendously. He learnt that he always needs to work hard, persevere and be consistent to achieve a skill or a goal because of Nucleo”.

Reports over the past decade highlight a significant decline in music education opportunities in England’s schools, despite the government’s curriculum recommendations. Nucleo removes barriers to music by ensuring all children – regardless of background, financial status, or social and economic challenges – have access to a high-quality music education through our unique, free, and immersive ensemble-based programme.

Our students come from more than 70 schools and speak over 40 languages at home, bringing a rich diversity to our community. 77% of our students come from Global Majority backgrounds – a group still underrepresented in classical music.

Music education brings joy and opens doors to new experiences, friendships, and essential life skills – for children and families alike. As one parent told us: “My child’s attendance at Nucleo has brought immense joy and pride to our family”. Among the hard work and investment of time and effort, many describe Nucleo as a family. As one student beautifully put it: “I deeply enjoy spending time with people who feel like family at Nucleo”.

Every opportunity we provide is made possible by donors like you. Your generosity has reached hundreds of children and young people and helped us build an organisation ready to support many more in the future. We are deeply grateful for your continued support of Nucleo.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
