Second Report for GlobalGiving
Project Title: Climate Change Resilient Families in Honduras
With the few resources raised during this period, accompaniment and support was provided to a group of women in the community of La Laguna, Taulabé. The women established a productive plot of land collectively, thereby contributing to self-esteem and the construction of sorority ties among women.
Main achievements:
During this period, 12 small agroecological women producers received technical assistance and support. The women received theoretical and practical training in the process of making organic fertilizers and techniques for growing vegetables, bananas and cassava.
A water storage tank and a drip micro-irrigation system for efficient water use were installed. In addition, the women were provided with materials for the establishment of these crops.
Faced with the high cost of chemical fertilizers, farming families are placing increasing importance on agroecological production. It is an alternative to reduce the impact of climate change and to guarantee the food security and sovereignty of farming families.
In the medium term, it is expected that these crops can contribute to the generation of income for families and thus contribute to the economic empowerment of rural women.
On behalf of the rural women accompanied by Red COMAL, we would like to thank all the donors who, through GlobalGiving, make this work for the rights of rural women possible.
