Third Report for GlobalGiving

Project Title: Climate Change Resilient Families in Honduras

This period has been difficult for small-scale farmers, especially due to the high cost of inputs for production and the effects of excessive rainfall, which have caused the proliferation of pests and diseases in crops and thus a decrease in harvests.

 Main achievements:

During this period, accompaniment and technical advice was provided to 15 indigenous women for the establishment of seedbeds for the production of vegetable seedlings and for the cultivation of basic grains.   In addition, 25 families headed by women were provided with vegetable seeds.

Due to the emergency declared by the Honduran government, it was necessary to manage resources to provide fertilizer to guarantee corn and bean production in the post-harvest cycle. In this regard, support was provided to 10 producers of basic grains; crops are currently growing and good harvests are expected, as long as the weather is favorable.

In order to contribute to guarantee the efficient use of water and take advantage of rainwater harvesting, two families were supported with plastic tanks for water storage, which is used for domestic use in their homes.

On behalf of the rural women accompanied by Red COMAL, we would like to thank all the donors who, through GlobalGiving, make this work for the rights of rural women possible.
