Eighth Report for GlobalGiving

Project Title: Resilient Families to Climate Change in Honduras

During this period, peasant families have faced the effects of climate change, with the presence of the El Niño phenomenon, droughts have intensified. Some producers have suffered losses in their crops of beans, corn and vegetables due to lack of water for irrigation.

In Red COMAL we promote some technologies in order to seek the protection of crops of small producers in this period we have directed resources for the construction of greenhouse systems for the production of seedlings and vegetables under roof, with this we reduce water consumption and the risk of crop loss by attack of pests and diseases.

 Main achievements:

During the eighth quarter, technical assistance has been provided to farmers in the indigenous communities of La Estanzuela and Las Vegas - municipality of Marcala, department of La Paz. Eighteen farming and indigenous families have participated in this process.

Training has been provided for the management of greenhouse crops and for the construction of this productive infrastructure. With the funds raised and with contributions from the families, two greenhouses, each 5 meters wide and 24 meters long, were built.

These greenhouses will be for the collective benefit and we are in the process of developing a regulation to ensure the proper functioning of the greenhouse.

The families are happy and very grateful for this financial support from the donors at GlobalGiving.
