Ninth Report for GlobalGiving

Project Title: Climate Change Resilient Families in Honduras

As of June 2024, the La Niña phenomenon was established - which has generated abundant rainfall and has been beneficial for the cultivation of basic grains. However, there is a greater proliferation of pests and diseases in vegetable and fruit crops. The most affected families are those who plant in open fields because they do not have the necessary resources to implement protected crop infrastructures.

In Red COMAL we promote some technologies in order to seek crop protection, in this period we have continued the processes of accompaniment and support to farmers with greenhouse systems.

 Main achievements:

During the ninth quarter, technical assistance has been provided to farmers in the indigenous communities of Corintio, municipality of Santa Ana, Planes, Santa Cruz and El Pastal, in the municipality of Marcala, department of La Paz. Twenty-four farmers participated in this process, including seven women and 17 men. Fifty plastic trays with 200 holes for seedling production were delivered to each community where a greenhouse was built for vegetable seedling production. In addition, farmers have been provided with lettuce, broccoli and bell bell pepper seeds for the establishment of vegetable crops.

It is expected that families will be able to increase their income by marketing their crops and improve their nutrition by integrating vegetables into their diet.

On behalf of the small-scale farmers, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the supportive donors who, through GlobalGiving, are making this support possible for the farming and indigenous families of our country.
