 Eleventh Quarterly Report for GlobalGiving

Project Title: Climate Change Resilient Families in Honduras

Since its founding in 1993, the COMAL Network has worked to strengthen the capacity of small-scale producers' organizations and improve the livelihoods and climate resilience of farmers and indigenous families. Especially intentional actions have been carried out in order to achieve women's economic empowerment.

Main achievements:

During this period, the process of technical advice and training aimed at women for the management of apiaries has continued.Nine organizations made up of 102 rural women received support with 135 Apis mellifera double body (double hive) beehives for the installation of nine apiaries. Each apiary was equipped with 15 hives. In addition, support was provided with clothing, honey extraction equipment, smokers and personal protective equipment for managing the apiaries.

These investments contribute to job creation and strengthen the local economy of rural communities. This project has contributed to the communities of Platanares, La Azomada and Rancho Grande in the municipality of Gracias, department of Lempira. El Pelón, Corral de Piedra and Las Flores in the municipality of Marcala, Arenales in the municipality of Chinacla and Palo Blanco in the municipality of Santa Elena, department of La Paz. The community of Río Colorado in the municipality of Intibucá, department of Intibucá.

Honey production has contributed to the generation of income for the families. In addition, it has contributed to the environment and agricultural production since bees are the main pollinators of crops.

On behalf of the women producers, we would like to express our deep gratitude to all the donors who, through GlobalGiving, make our work in rural communities in Honduras possible.
