The High Atlas Foundation’s recent partnership with Earthday reveals the true potential of community empowerment, a journey from planting trees to economic development to community resiliency.
From January to April of 2023, HAF organized 3 women’s empowerment workshops for M'Goun Valley communities, just the first step in the larger empowerment journeys of these communities.
These workshops consisted of 75 women, bridging generations, who were able to use these lessons to take on leadership roles in their communities and better their ability to engage in revenue-increasing activities.
Not only has this partnership resulted in greater empowerment for a number of women, it also inspired the planting of over 51,000 trees in 45 villages around the valley.
These 14,000 pomegranate trees, 2,000 walnut trees, 11,000 almond trees, and 10,000 carob trees benefited nearly 2,500 farmers, showing the transformative power that tree planting can have for communities around Morocco.
