Continuing to partner up with Puerto Rican community leaders in certifying them with project management skills we headed to San German to collaborate with CRCD. Caribbean Regenerative Community Development (CRCD) is a not-profit organization that aims to implement on the ground efforts to advance the regeneration of Puerto Rico’s natural resources and communities.
This organization had voiced to La Maraña their intentions to establish their U Tree Puerto Rico project, a long-term initiative with the aim to involve communities in the southwest region of the archipelago in regenerative and sustainable practices within public spaces. For this initiative they wanted to strengthen their strategies around mapping communities, gather stories, decision making and collectively imagining spaces.
During a period of 4 days, community leaders, project staffers, scientists, farmers and religious leaders joined us to convene around La Cartuchera topics and to plan their future strategies for implementing U Tree PR.
Together, with the tools that La Cartuchera offers, we were able to recount timelines around projects and spaces, design a template and a strategy to conduct a census around community space use, natural habitats and experiences around flooding and fire history. All of these were found to be important steps before beginning to work with the community to properly conduct their project.
This is the idea behind La Cartuchera, to help facilitate the toolkit around topics of narrative justice, imagining collective futures, community mapping and its processes.
We invite you to promote of our certification by becoming a sponsor. By gifting $150 today a community leader can be trained in the toolkit or if you prefer you can become a recuring donor. Recurring donations help to print educational material, cost food, rental of spaces, and more!
