The National Coalition has actively engaged over the past three months to oppose substantial modifications to programs serving marginalized populations. Efforts on Capitol Hill have focused on persuading congressional representatives to reverse proposed reductions to key safety net initiatives. Cuts to Medicaid and SNAP outlined in the reconciliation bill are projected to increase poverty rates and significantly affect rural hospitals and healthcare systems. Additionally, the Coalition is working to prevent the implementation of time limits in subsidized housing, which could jeopardize housing stability for millions.

NCH continues to advocate against reductions or eliminations in vital programs such as Permanent Supportive Housing and Education for Homeless Children and Youth. In response to the Supreme Court's Grants Pass v. Johnson decision, NCH has opposed the proliferation of criminalization ordinances, now present in over 320 municipalities.

Alongside these efforts, NCH is dedicated to expanding affordable housing opportunities through its Adaptive Reuse Campaign, which equips communities to repurpose vacant structures for residential use. In partnership with the Pew Research Institute, NCH seeks to restore Single Room Occupancy Units (SROs), previously effective in mitigating homelessness. The organization has also introduced a comprehensive 10-Point Plan to guide local governments in addressing housing shortages and reducing reliance on punitive measures, while promoting minimum shelter standards and non-congregate housing models.

Furthermore, NCH will convene hundreds of leaders with lived experience in Cincinnati from November 17th to 19th to exchange insights and advance mobilization efforts; this conference remains unique in scope. The annual Violence Report and After Sparc reports are scheduled for release in December.

As challenges persist, NCH remains steadfast in advocating for policy reforms that prioritize at-risk communities. Ongoing initiatives include stakeholder engagement at all levels and fostering robust collaboration among service providers, policymakers, and local stakeholders to implement sustainable solutions.

The Bring Americ

Bring America Home NOW (BAHN) has 6 major policy pillars that focus our movement’s fight to end homelessness. Each of these pillars have short term and long term policy focuses. As our movement progresses, BAHN will be updating and adding to our political focus areas as we push legislation on a national and local level. 

Our national partners are advocates from around the country, sharing insight on state and citywide struggles that heavily influence our national political pillar focuses.  As a movement, we incorporate local struggles into the national discussion as a comprehensive grassroots movement to end homelessness.

The Bring America Home Now Campaign has reached the 1000 partner milestone.  The campaign has also reached 32 state captains.  On April 22, NCH and its partners held events across the country to raise awarenes about the growing criminalization activities. Laws making it illegal to be homeless resulting in fines, jails and arrest have been passed in over 165 communities since the passage of the Johnson versus Grants Pass Supreme Court decision.  NCH will be organizing direct actions in community across the country, supporting our partners and elected official.  Recently NCH supported the introduction of the Glia Jihson Bill.
