In Afghanistan, overlapping crises-including conflict, natural disasters, and economic sanctions following political upheaval-have left approximately 22.9 million people in need of humanitarian assistance. JEN is providing livelihood assistance to support both women and men to earn an income and live independently. We are strongly committed to continuing our livelihood support so that people in these difficult circumstances can regain their self-reliance and rebuild stable and dignified lives.
In Afghanistan, nearly half of the population is in need of humanitarian assistance. Nangarhar Province is one of the regions with the greatest need for assistance. The provincial capital, Jalalabad, attracts large numbers of internally displaced people and returnees seeking income opportunities. However, job opportunities remain extremely limited. Women are particularly vulnerable in this situation. Their opportunities to earn an income are severely restricted.
We will provide livelihood support in Nangarhar Province, located in eastern Afghanistan. Based on the specific circumstances of each participant, we will offer business training and provide startup kits to support their income-generating opportunities. To ensure the sustainability of the outcomes after the completion of the project, we will also collaborate with local businesses and vendors who are willing to offer employment or contract work to the participants.
The project will support approximately 6 to 7 individuals (including assessment, training, provision of tools and resources, and monitoring.) We provide people, especially those in extremely vulnerable situations, including single mothers, with opportunities to gain business knowledge, aiming to support their path toward self-reliance. This will revitalize the regional economy and enhance the livelihoods of their families and residents of the region.
