Strengthening Awareness on Sexual and Reproductive Health in Marginalized Communities
As part of our ongoing commitment to improving sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) awareness in Egypt’s most underserved areas, the Women Friendly Services Project has taken a significant step forward through a new collaboration with MADEV, a dynamic media-driven NGO.
Together, we organized and delivered focus group discussions (FGDs) engaging more than 50 women and 25 adolescent boys from marginalized communities. These sessions provided a safe and inclusive space for open dialogue around sensitive health topics that are often overlooked or stigmatized. The discussions gathered valuable insights into how organizations working in SRHR should frame and communicate their messages to ensure they are accessible, culturally sensitive, and well-received by the intended beneficiaries.
This community-centered approach ensures that awareness campaigns do not only “speak about” people but actively listen to and reflect their realities. Key Outcomes 4 short films were developed based on the findings, each tackling a critical yet often silenced issue:
- Understanding HIV beyond stigma.
- Opening conversations about menstruation.
- Encouraging parents and youth on how to initiate sensitive discussions.
- Promoting positive, inclusive narratives around SRHR.
These films are designed as powerful awareness tools that can reach wider audiences, spark meaningful conversations, and empower communities with knowledge that supports healthier and more dignified lives.
By bridging grassroots insights with creative media solutions, the Women Friendly Services Project is not only raising awareness but also shaping a sustainable model of communication for SRHR in Egypt.
We are deeply grateful for the support of our partners and donors, whose contributions make it possible to bring these critical conversations to life and ensure that women and youth in marginalized areas are not left behind.
