workshop Workshop: "Planting Plants"

Dear friends,
We are pleased to share with you the progress of the Healthy Nutrition for 120 Children in Oaxaca campaign. Thanks to your generous support and ongoing commitment, we have made significant progress in recovering, promoting, and strengthening traditional foods within indigenous communities in the state of Oaxaca.

Your contribution has not only improved access to nutritious foods, but also strengthened community participation, hands-on learning, and education in sustainable agriculture.

  • In Santa María Guelacé, a workshop entitled “Planting Plants” was held for fourth-year students, with 16 participants (10 women and 6 men). This activity promoted practical knowledge about growing healthy foods, encouraging children to value traditional agriculture and the importance of nutritious food from an early age.
  • Space management and excavation for the installation of school gardens was carried out with the active participation of 30 parents. This action strengthened community organization and collaborative work, paving the way for the establishment of productive spaces that will directly benefit children.
  • In Rojas de Cuauhtémoc, 35 parents participated in the excavation and installation of a greenhouse, contributing labor and community commitment to create a space for the production of fresh food. Similarly, in Ixtlán de Juárez, 15 adolescents participated in the excavation and installation of a school greenhouse, integrating technical learning with agricultural practice.
  • Seventy-four children participated in planting and installing irrigation systems in Santa María Guelacé; 12 children participated in Rojas de Cuauhtémoc; and 15 children participated in Ixtlán de Juárez. These activities allowed participants to learn about responsible water use, crop care, and sustainable food production, strengthening their connection to the land and their traditional knowledge.
  • We currently have three school gardens in operation, which are already bearing fruit. Colorful chard, spinach, lettuce, radishes, parsley, and cilantro are being harvested as a result of the collective work of children, adolescents, and parents. These achievements reflect how community efforts are strengthening healthy eating habits at school, promoting nutrition and the consumption of fresh, local foods.

In total, 221 people participated directly in the various project activities, including children, adolescents, mothers, and fathers.

These results reflect the tangible impact of your solidarity. Thanks to you, communities are not only strengthening their food security, but also recovering traditional practices, promoting collective work, and improving the well-being of children.
