Rosemary Retires
At 76, Rosemary is the eldest member of the Zambezi Community Farm, from which she is retiring, and a founding member of the Zambezi Doll Company (2010 to 2021). She also cares for her granddaughter, Seppo, who has cerebral palsy. This is becoming very difficult for Rosemary and we are working on finding solutions.
Seppo is 20 years old and very large. Her present dilapidated wheelchair is too small for Seppo and impossible for her grand mother to push. They badly need a new, heavy-duty wheelchair ($800) and a daily caretaker ($100 a week). Also, Rosemary is very nearsighted and needs prescription glasses ($200). If we can raise the money we will also repair and paint the interior of her house which needs it.
The Zambezi Community Farm
The Farm has had many setbacks. The worst was the 9-month drought in 2024 that destroyed 3/4s of all Zambian crops and created widespread famine. Our well failed because the water table dropped drastically. Hope began to revive last July when we raised enough money through our GlobalGiving July Bonus Day campaign to put in a second well. The rains have been good this year and both wells are up and running. Extensive crops have been planted which will begin to be harvested at the end of November. Life returns to the fields.
We have ideas about developing income advertising a “Local Experience” where tourists can get a tour of the farm. Livingstone is next to Victoria Falls and has a fair amount of visitors looking for local things to do. A future open air snack bar might also sell some local crafts.
The AACDP raises money for all of our projects - Educational sponsorships, support for the Mama Bakhita Home for children with disabilities, and the Zambezi Community Farm with GlobalGiving campaigns, Italian tours and donations from our supporters.
Thank you for your support of this project over these 20 years. We hope that if you find yourself at Victoria Falls you’ll visit us at the Farm.
