The Tiruvannamalai district in India faces serious challenges in education, economy, and literacy, with diabetes prevention and control urgently needed in 150 rural and tribal villages. Research shows that 8 to 10 percent of residents have diabetes, rising to 13 percent in lower-income communities. A lack of awareness about food security further complicates the issue. Without prompt action, diabetes cases could reach an all-time high in the future.
In rural villages, many people struggle with diabetes, facing serious complications like limb loss, vision impairment, and high blood pressure. Community awareness of these risks is low, and misinformation often prevents timely medical consultation, leading to severe consequences. To tackle this issue, we propose a pilot program to create awareness & identify diabetes in 150 rural and tribal villages. By enhancing community knowledge and healthcare access, we can work towards a healthier future
Mainly, how to eat healthy food, and encouraging natural and traditional methods use. Promoting the use of food grains grown without the excessive use of chemical fertilizers. The detection camps will be organized in each rural and tribal village, conducting blood and urine tests, checking blood pressure, and informing people of the results on the spot in the village. Awareness will be raised through pamphlets.
Their quality of life will improve as they learn about diabetes and traditional food methods for producing high-quality products. To reach out to all individuals showing symptoms and referred for treatment, we will offer repeat blood and urine tests, as well as blood pressure monitoring and counseling services, which will contribute to their health improvement. Through medical blood tests, individuals can be accurately diagnosed and monitored, empowering them to face challenges with confidence.
