By Francesco Bucci | Tukuy Pacha director
Dear friends and donors,
As an example of the work that Tukuy Pacha is carrying on, we would like to tell you about the story of Matthew, a 6-year-old child who lives in “Wasay Higuerani”, in the southern part of Cochabamba City. We got to know him by reference from a public social service that asked for Tukuy Pacha's help to improve his situation. Having been born with myelomeningocele, Matthew developed a motor disability.
Through home visits, Tukuy Pacha’s team assessed Matthew's living conditions and his family situation, managing to include the child in a sponsorship program run with Chalice Canada and grant them economic relief. Home physiotherapy sessions have been provided, which helped improve his mobility. However, another crucial issue was still present: due to his condition, Matthew couldn’t walk properly, and for this reason, until 2024, he was not attending school.
With the help of generous people like you, Tukuy Pacha was able to provide Matthew with a wheelchair suited for his body size. Arrangements have been made with the local school director, and the child has begun to attend classes. The wheelchair not only allows Matthew to move independently but has also facilitated his social inclusion through education and connection with his peers.
Your support through GlobalGiving (link: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/disability-rehab-bolivia/) allow Tukuy Pacha to provide prompt answers and help in situations like Matthew’s one, building paths of hope and inclusion.
