Belay is one of millions of people who have experienced vision loss due to trachoma. Trachoma is an infectious disease and one of the leading causes of blindness globally.
Thanks to Orbis supporters, like you, our work to help people like Belay has continued during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In December 2020 Orbis moved forward with the Mass Drug Administration and Eye Screening Programme in Ethiopia. The Orbis Team safely treated 7.5 million people with medicine to protect from trachoma.In addition, anyone who showed active signs of trachoma received a referral for surgery at a clinic.
During this programme, Belay had an eye evaluation at an Orbis-supported health centre which led to sight-saving surgery.
Thanks to you - our wonderful Orbis supporters - health care workers had enough personal protective equipment (PPE) to help keep COVID-19 at bay.
