Jemal watched as his four children, Ousam, Eman, Hamid, and Oumer, were assessed for trachoma - a painful, infectious and blinding eye disease - during a recent Mass Durg Administration programme.Unfortunately, all four showed active signs of trachoma. Which caused them a lot of pain, especially in the sunlight, making it hard for them to play outside.
In their village, life was not easy. They didn't have electricity, clean water, or proper toilets. To get clean water, they had to walk 2.5 to 3 kilometres. Making hygiene difficult and contributing to the spread of trachoma.
Luckily, the children received a special eye ointment, administered by Orbis, to cure their current infection and alleviate the pain. Jemal was also taught how to apply the ointment, and he learned that it needs to be used twice a day for six weeks. Jemal felt grateful for the help they received. With the treatment and a bit of care, his children would soon be able to play outside without pain.
