Invest in Her Education, Empower Her Future

Project Overview

Access to higher education is a transformative pathway for visually impaired (VI) girls to achieve independence, dignity, and financial stability. The Donate for Higher Education Support of Blind Girls Program by Mitra Jyothi is designed to break barriers to education by providing a holistic ecosystem of academic, residential, emotional, and technological support.

Currently, eight visually impaired girls are pursuing their academic dreams under this initiative:

Grade 11: 1 student

Grade 12: 3 students

Undergraduate – 1st Year: 2 students

Undergraduate – Final Year: 2 students

These young women are the first-generation learners in many cases and come from low-income families who are unable to support their educational expenses. Your contributions are enabling them not only to study, but to thrive.

Support Provided

The program ensures comprehensive support that addresses both academic and personal needs:

1. Free Boarding and Lodging

  • Safe residential facilities with nutritious meals
  • Accessible living spaces designed for visually impaired individuals
  • Supportive community environment that encourages peer learning

2. Academic Assistance

  • Daily evening tuition provided by trained volunteers
  • Extra coaching during exams
  • Continuous mentoring, career guidance, and emotional support

3. Assistive Devices and Learning Resources

  • DAISY players for accessible audio-based learning
  • Laptops and smartphones equipped with screen-reader technology
  • White canes to enhance independent mobility
  • Braille textbooks and audio books to ensure full access to curriculum
  • High-speed internet access for research, online classes, and digital inclusion

Impact & Outcomes

This program is not only helping blind girls pursue education, but empowering them to become future leaders, teachers, counsellors, and changemakers.

  • 100% of the girls are continuing their studies without dropout
  • Improved academic performance due to structured tuitions and personalized support
  • Increased confidence, mobility, and independence through assistive devices
  • Strengthened life skills such as communication, digital literacy, and self-advocacy
  • Role-model effect – these girls are inspiring others in their communities to pursue education

Case Highlight:

One of our final-year students, who joined the program with limited access to resources and mobility, now confidently uses a laptop with screen-reader technology to complete her assignments and attend online classes. She has expressed aspirations to pursue a Master's degree and become a lecturer.

Why This Program Matters

In India, visually impaired girls often face triple discrimination due to gender, disability, and poverty. Without intervention, their futures are at risk of lifelong dependency. This program ensures that they receive equal opportunities to pursue education, gain employment, and live with dignity.

Your donation is not just funding education—it is investing in independence, equality, and long-term empowerment.

Future Plans

With continued support, we aim to:

  • Increase the number of beneficiaries to 20 girls over the next two years
  • Introduce soft skills and spoken English training
  • Provide vocational training and internship opportunities
  • Establish a digital learning hub exclusively for blind girl students

Message of Gratitude

On behalf of all the students, staff, and the Mitra Jyothi family, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to GlobalGiving donors. Your support is transforming the lives of visually impaired girls and paving their path toward a bright, self-reliant future.

“When you educate a visually impaired girl, you empower a family and uplift a community.”

Thank you for believing in their dreams and being a part of their journey.

We look forward to your continued support in helping more visually impaired girls achieve their academic and career aspirations.
