New Opportunities and Expansion for Coffee Project

By JoLyn Rekasis | Experiential Learning Program Manager

Hello GlobalGiving Family!

There are so many updates for this new exciting proect as it presents us with many opportunities and collaborations... all with the end goal of improving the livelihoods of coffee farmers.

First, we have to say that this project wouldn't have even been started without the pandemic as a catalyst. As an agriculture organization, we like to look at it with the perspective of the pandemic being the manure for fertile soil and something new (the coffee project) born.

During the last year, we are exploring different ways to continue to support farmers and this project slowly evolved over the months while we were building relationships with coffee farmers, listening to their stories, and evaluating how we can truly assist in the full potential of these amazing farmers. They are so deserving of doubling their income and more.

Since we started this new initative, we have been able to see how much this project is needed for these farmers in extremely remote places of the Mapacho Basin in Peru. Last month in May, we received exciting news that we are receiving even more support with this coffee initiative. Not only are we going to be helping the farmers with the production side and combating the Coffee Leaf Rust disease but we will also sell their green bean cofee to coffee roasters and buyers. That's right, we are dipping our toes in the coffee world. Bringing together buyers and roasters that are in alignment with our mission, vision, and purpose.

This first year, we are learning the ropes, buying sacks of green beans, and seeing how we can create a foundation in the coffee business for many years to come. Your support through this new initiative is doing so much! We can't wait to see where this coffee journey takes us and the coffee farmers.

It's only the beginning!

Sending so much gratitiude,

The Andean Alliance team
