Thanks to your commitment and support, from 1 October to 8 December 2018 Noor Society has continued providing free quality rehabilitation services to children with disabilities from Aida and Al-Azzeh refugee camps in Bethlehem, Palestine. The services have included physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy sessions that are done both in the Noor Society for People with Disabilities School and in the homes of the children. Some of these services (namely the physiotherapy and occupational therapy sessions) are also open to adults and elderly persons who are in need and cannot afford the therapies otherwise.
The number of children, adults and elderly who have benefited from Noor Society rehabilitation services include the following:
During the same reporting period, Noor School for Rehabilitation has collaborated with Doctor Mohammad Abu Srour, a young doctor from Aida Camp who has studied and worked in Cuba. Doctor Mohammad, together with Saja Asad (Noor Society physiotherapist) and Ayad Khader (Noor Society occupational therapist) have conducted a number of home visits for bed ridden persons in both refugee camps. A total of 3 elderly persons receive daily visits, while other 4 receive weekly visits.
As part of the programmes “Receptive Society” and “Yes I can!”, and marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December third, Noor School for Rehabilitation organized a series of activities to raise awareness on the needs of children with disabilities within the community and encourage cooperation and acceptance. The activities included awareness sessions for school students to promote their acceptance of children with disabilities and an environmental awareness activity in which children with disabilities and their siblings planted flowers and cleaned the environment of the School. The activities finished with a big celebration in which Noor Society invited local schools and all organizations in the area who are working for the welfare of persons with disabilities. The party was attended by about 250 people and it was a great opportunity for the community to interact and have fun together. The event was also reported by the local media!
From Noor Society for People with Disabilities we want to sincerely thank you very much for supporting our work and for allowing us to reach children and families in need from Aida and Al-Azzeh refugee camps. Please keep supporting our project and help us spread the word so we can keep drawing smiles for children with disabilities in Bethlehem!
