South Kivu Emergency: Rapid Child Response

1. Executive Summary

The “Rapid Response for Children in Disasters” project aims to provide immediate and targeted support to children affected by natural or man-made disasters in South Kivu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Initiated by OGDH-RDC with the support of GlobalGiving, the project seeks to deliver essential services, psychological care, and emergency supplies to 40 vulnerable children.

2. Project Background

South Kivu is frequently affected by natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and epidemics. These events severely impact children, especially girls, children with disabilities, and those from poor households. Key challenges include:

  • Loss of shelter and personal belongings
  • Family separation and displacement
  • Limited access to education, healthcare, and protection
  • Psychological trauma
  • Food insecurity

3. Project Objectives

  • Deliver emergency assistance to 40 affected children
  • Address urgent needs such as food, clothing, blankets, and medicine
  • Provide psychological support to help children overcome trauma
  • Facilitate safe reintegration into stable environments

4. Key Activities Planned

  • Distribution of emergency kits (food, clothes, blankets)
  • Access to urgent medical care
  • Individual and group psychological support sessions
  • Implementation of a child monitoring system

5. Expected Outcomes

  • 40 children will receive comprehensive and immediate aid
  • Improvement in both physical and emotional well-being
  • Reduced disaster-related risks for children in the targeted area
  • Strengthened response capacity of OGDH-RDC

6. Budget

The total estimated budget for the project is $10,000 USD.
Thanks to our partnership with GlobalGiving, we have already raised $25 USD. This collaboration gives us international visibility and a strong foundation to reach our funding goal.

7. Call to Donors
