Urgent Support for Children Affected by Disasters

By FERDINAND CITO | CORDINATOR

General Context

South Kivu, in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is regularly struck by natural disasters such as floods, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and epidemics. These events have a devastating impact on children, particularly girls, children with disabilities, and those from impoverished families.

The consequences are severe: loss of housing, family separation, interruption of education, limited access to healthcare, psychological trauma, and lack of access to essential basic services needed for their well-being and development.

Project Objective

In response to this humanitarian crisis, the “Rapid Response for Children in Disasters” project, led by OGDH-RDC, aims to provide immediate and targeted assistance to 40 children affected by natural and human-made disasters in South Kivu province.

The intervention will provide:

  • Nutritional support
  • Distribution of clothes, shoes, and blankets
  • Emergency medical care
  • Psychological support

This comprehensive support aims to restore a basic level of dignity, safety, and hope for these vulnerable children.

Project Progress

To date:

  • The official launch of the project is scheduled for November 2025
  • We are currently in the phase of identifying trainers and beneficiary children
  • Thanks to our partnership with GlobalGiving, we have already raised $25 out of the $10,000 goal
  • This initial contribution encourages us, and we warmly thank our first donors for their solidarity

Estimated Total Budget: $10,000

This amount will cover the identified essential needs for the 40 beneficiary children: food, clothing, medical care, psychological support, logistics, and project coordination.

Call for Solidarity

This project represents a direct and concrete response to the needs of children whose lives are disrupted by every disaster. Your support is crucial to help us reach our funding goal and intervene in a timely manner.

Every donation, no matter how small, can make a difference. Together, we can reduce suffering, protect childhood, and restore hope.

Acknowledgments

We deeply thank all individuals and organizations who have already contributed. Your generosity is an act of compassion with a far-reaching impact.

We now call on all donors, partners, friends of the DRC, and citizens of the world to join us in moving this high-impact humanitarian project forward.

Conclusion

Our goal is achievable. With your support and our partnership with GlobalGiving, we are confident we can successfully implement this project. Every day counts, every child deserves protection, and every donation is a light in the darkness.

Let’s help them. Now.
