Introduction: The project "SCHOOLS NEED A SCHOOL LIBRARY IN SOUTH-KIVU" is an initiative by the Human Rights Defense Organization (OGDH) aimed at improving access to education through the establishment of school libraries. This project specifically targets La Lune School, located in the Bagira commune of Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Context: In the South Kivu province, many schools suffer from the lack of school libraries, severely limiting students' access to educational resources and the quality of their learning. After conducting an in-depth survey of the educational needs in schools in Bukavu, OGDH identified La Lune School as an institution in urgent need of reading books.
Project Objectives: The main objective is to equip La Lune School with educational and reading materials to provide a better learning environment for students. This project aims to:
Progress Made: OGDH has already conducted a thorough survey in Bukavu and identified La Lune School as the priority for this project. Furthermore, a needs assessment has been carried out to determine the areas in which reading and educational books can be purchased. However, despite identifying these needs, the funds raised so far are insufficient to purchase the necessary quantity of books.
Estimated Budget: The total estimated budget for this project is 10,000 USD. To date, OGDH has raised 69 USD. This amount is insufficient to fund the purchase of a significant number of books. OGDH continues to seek additional funding to complete the fundraising and ensure the successful implementation of this vital project.
Next Steps: In the coming days, OGDH will select the classes and subjects that will receive books. We remain in close contact with partners, including GlobalGiving, to ensure the achievement of our goals. Collaboration with GlobalGiving is crucial to overcoming the current financial barriers and reaching our objectives within the expected timeline.
The project "SCHOOLS NEED A SCHOOL LIBRARY IN SOUTH-KIVU" has the potential to transform access to education in Bukavu, especially at La Lune School. Thanks to the partnership with organizations like GlobalGiving and continued support from donors, we firmly believe we will be able to provide books and improve the learning environment for many children. Long-term commitment is essential to ensure that students have access to quality educational resources in a context where access to education is still limited.
