Hello Supporters!
Over the past quarter, our efforts in Zimbabwe have gently but steadily advanced the goal of giving young children a strong start. Guided by national policy shifts, such as the launch of the Early Childhood Development Coordination Framework in Zimbabwe, which emphasises affordable, quality ECD services for children up to age 7 our work sits right at the heart of systemic change.
While we don’t have room here to list every centre, classroom or training session, here are some of the real moments that matter:
The teachers we trained are designing lessons with children’s curiosity in mind, songs, stories, play-based activities, and local materials, not just textbooks.
Parents and caregivers are being invited into workshops, home-learning support conversations, early literacy & nutrition ideas.
The little ones themselves (ages 3-6) are showing signs of growing confidence. They’re arriving with a smile, they’re engaging with peers, they’re beginning to ask: “Why?”
Because of rising costs and supply delays in the country, we’ve become more creative by using locally-sourced play items and working side-by-side with communities to keep momentum going.
What We’re Learning
Food + Learning = Power: We’re seeing that when children don’t worry about hunger, they participate. When they can play and explore, the learning happens.
Teacher & Caregiver Engagement is Critical: That child above wasn’t transformed only by the classroom; her caregiver was invited in, supported, asked questions.
Flexibility Matters: In Zimbabwe’s context, costs and logistics shift. Our team has learnt to adapt sometimes changing menus, sometimes switching play-materials, always keeping the children central.
Looking Ahead, In the coming quarter we plan to:
Strengthen home-learning packs so children can continue to play & learn even when absent.
Reward and celebrate the upcoming festive season with our children and we hope to be able to afford to give them a special meal on thanksgiving!
Tighten our monitoring of readiness for Grade 1 so we know that these early years are preparing children for what comes next.
Source more learning materials locally to reduce dependency on imported items, cut cost, build community ownership.
To each of you reading this: thank you. Your support gives hope and tangible change. Every minute the teacher spends, every fruit break we provide, every story we help a child to hear and ask questions about they all stand on your generosity.
Thank You
