This month, millions of children around the world sharpened their pencils, packed their backpacks, and headed back to school.
But the return to the classroom looks different in communities navigating crisis. For some, it means rebuilding schools after conflict. For others, it’s providing dignity kits so girls don’t miss class, or training teachers to support students coping with trauma.
That's precisely where IsraAID's teams have been hard at work. In places like Juba, South Sudan - where attending school is not a given for hundreds of thousands of children - our team partnered with Augusto Memorial Primary School to ensure that hundreds of children would have that opportunity.
To prepare for the new school year, IsraAID refurbished classrooms and provided school supplies, uniforms, cleaning materials, and even shoes for students who previously walked barefoot. We also supplied dignity kits with essential sanitary supplies for girls who would otherwise have to miss school during their monthly periods.
One mother recounted the impact of seeing her daughter, Sana, prepare for the school year after almost missing the last term due to illness and lack of supplies:
“For the first time, Sana is walking into school with her head held high, proud of her clean uniform and new backpack. You gave her dignity, and you gave us hope.”
It is your support that fills these backpacks with not just supplies, but with dignity and hope for the future. Thank you.
