Opening Doors: Eco Literacy for Children

By Caren Davids | Head of Governance and Impact

A world of books
A world of books

At Nourish Eco Village, we believe that education is the key to creating lasting change — for children, families, and entire communities. Through our Eco Literacy for Children in Rural South Africa program, we’re helping young learners in Sigagule and Makrepeni gain vital skills in reading, writing, and mathematics, while fostering a deep love for learning and the environment.

We are so grateful to be able to support children as they learn Math and English in our community computer labs. These digital learning spaces open the door to new opportunities — empowering children to dream bigger, explore their curiosity, and build confidence in their academic abilities.

Every Saturday, we host math classes at our premises, where children receive extra support, guidance, and encouragement from our dedicated team. It’s always wonderful to see their excitement and determination as they tackle new challenges and improve their skills.

Recently, we also had the joy of distributing 980 hard-copy books to children across seven schools. These books can be read both in the classroom and at home, allowing children to share the joy of reading — the feeling of holding, smelling, and turning the pages of a real book — with their families. This simple act is helping to spark a love of learning that reaches beyond the classroom and into the heart of the community.

Your support makes all of this possible.

Together, we are nurturing the next generation of eco-literate, confident, and curious young minds in rural South Africa.
