As already mentioned, our project aims to regenerate the biosocial fabric of Oaxaca through various actions. First, we must understand the current conditions of the watershed; thorough understanding of the watershed's health with data will help to take informed decisions about the actions to be implemented and the conditions that need to be improved. Once the actions are implemented, the ideal is to measure their impact. This is achieved through historical monitoring of certain parameters that allow us to determine whether and how the implemented strategies have changed the watershed's health and how the dinamics of the basin it behaves.
INSO has implemented a continuous and periodic monitoring program, which has several components, including: a) On-site sampling and reading of parameters such as temperature, pH, redox potential, dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, turbidity, and hardness; b) Sampling for laboratory analysis of bacteriological parameters and heavy metals; c) Analysing abundance and status of flora and fauna populations around the basin.
Furthermore, this monitoring program includes an ongoing training component, consisting of theoretical and practical workshops on monitoring and sampling physical, chemical, and bacteriological parameters, and water quality monitoring based on the presence and quantity of macroinvertebrate families. This is open to anyone interested in participating. We believe that sharing knowledge and the actions that people can take are important for regeneration, enabling us to replicate strategies and increase the direct impact and intervention area through collaborators members of different working groups.
As can be seen, Regenerating the social & natural fabric in Oaxaca is a comprehensive project that includes several strategies and actions, as well as methodologies for evaluating their impact.
