Greetings from St martins School. We hope that you are doing well in your respective countries.
Your continued support has helped us the cover the 14 weeks in this second term of the year 2025. The going is well and we have been able to carry out our school activities while ensuring that the students have a conducive learning enviroment.
Our students population for primary and junior school is 866 students, secondary school is 100 girls while our boys school has 80 boys as of today. This is testament of our growth and belief in our cause of transformation through education. This year we have 3 graduating classes, 72 students in grade 6, 77 students in grade 9 and 34 girls in high school who will be graduating at the end of the year. The preparations for the national exams are in progress.
Education
The first senior school admission in the new curriculum will start in the year 2026. The 77 students in Grade 9 this year have been helped to select schools based on their choice of careers. Our two senior schools are keen on teaching all the three pathways - STEM, Arts and Sports Science and Social Sciences. We have conducted workshops for the guardians, students and the teachers on the options available, the selection of schools for the students and we will continue supporting them throughout the course of this year.
Term 2 has also had a series of extra curricular activities. Ball games - Football, volleyball, basketball, netball and handball have been the focus for this term. Our three schools have particpated in the ball games at the cluster, zonals, subcounty and are currently at the regional level hoping to represent the school in the nationals competition in August.
Political and Economic Situation
As a school we have been affected by the waves of protests in the country and Nairobi the capital. We have had school closures for a day or two. Also due to uncertainaities and the insecurity due to protest some students have missed out on school. The situation is currently calm and we have been able to make up on the lost time and finish the term on a high.
School feeding and Weekend Feeding
We have continued to the feed the 966 children attending school across our three schools, with the guarantee of sponsorships and support received we have had an easier time in the feeding of the children. The weekend feeding program that we run every Saturday has been on since our last update, this initiative helps us feed the children during the weekend as some miss out on meals over the weekend. In the period ending July a total of 17,550 children have been fed thanks to the weekend feeding program.
We continue to experience unreliable rains, inflation and climate changes efects that have a significant impact on food security, unemployment to mention a few that impact the community here and the trickle down effect is passed down to the children in the community and the school. But even with these challenges we continue to do the much we can and the continued support of our programs is a key pillar of the work we do.
Continued education for graduating stuents post high School
Thanks to partnerships and engagements with other organsitaions, we have been able to conduct educational workshops for 2024 graduating class. ALU and ALX rrepresentaives provided insights on opportunities available for our students. 21 students attended the workshop in April fo this year.
The students were also introduced to the Mastercard Scholars program which supports students from vulnerable backgrounds who are unable to attend University. The program is run in partnership with the African Leadership University, Rwanda. 4 students were awarded full scholarships through this program and we hope through this we will be able to scale our tertiary education program to benefit more students across our two high schools.
Volunteering
38 volunteers from Salesforce, Pracedo, Capita, Celonis, Amazon, Servicenow, Google, Cloudco Solutions, Mckinsey, Boostai visited our school for their annual volunteering this month of July. They conducted a series of workshops and engaments in the school and the community. Key highlights of their activities are:
End of term 2 2025
The school will close on the 31st of July for a three week holiday break. We have achieved much in this term and we hope to continue when we resume classes from the 26th of August. We are more than grateful for the continued support.
Thank you,
St Martins School.
