With your generous financial support, the Educate Ethiopia Children: One Pack for One Child project has made a tangible and life-changing impact on highly vulnerable children in conflict-affected areas of the Amhara Region. contribution has not only addressed urgent educational needs by providing essential learning materials, school supplies, and uniforms, but has also enabled children affected by conflict to enroll in school, return to class, and remain engaged in their education with dignity. In a context where more than 4.1 million children are currently out of school in Amhara due to armed conflict, drought, displacement, and economic disruption, this intervention directly supports the national Back to School initiative and helps mitigate a deepening education crisis. For many children, receiving a single education pack meant the difference between dropping out and continuing their schooling.
The prolonged conflict in Amhara has severely strained families across all socio-economic groups. Structurally marginalized and poor households are unable to afford school fees, nutritious food, or basic educational materials, while even families who previously could support their children’s education now face market disconnection, insecurity, and lack of access to supplies. Traders are often unwilling or unable to reach high-risk areas, making educational materials scarce or unavailable, even for those who can afford them. In response, MHO’s child-focused intervention addressed these barriers by covering school-related costs—such as learning materials, uniforms, and tutorial support—thereby reducing the financial and psychological burden on families and guardians. By operating in hard-to-reach, war-affected areas, the project ensured that no child was excluded simply because of geography or insecurity.
As a direct result of your support, the project reached over 187 highly vulnerable children, both in and out of school, enabling them to enroll, stay in school, and learn without interruption. The outcomes are already visible: the number of out-of-school children among the targeted communities has decreased; children are continuing their education on an equal footing with their peers; and academic performance has improved. Most importantly, these children are on a path toward becoming self-reliant individuals who can play a productive role in their communities. None of this would have been possible without your indispensable generosity. With the continued support of our global individual donors, partners, and allies, MHO remains committed to defending equitable access to early childhood and primary education for all girls and boys in Ethiopia—especially in Amhara, where the right to education remains under severe threat. Your support is not just funding a project; it is restoring hope and safeguarding the future of Ethiopia’s children
