Project Report | Oct 8, 2019
THE FOURTH QUARTER REPORT, 2019.

By Brian | Program Manager

Dear Supporters,

We are happy to report that our third quarter has been a successful one. We have been involved in different activities throughout the three months which included a one month break from the school for the August holidays.

Start of July marked the beginning of the third quarter. In July we received the last bit of the new textbooks for classes five to eight whose order had been placed in the previous quarter. The availability of the new textbooks which was financed by one of our private school sponsors, made class work easy for both the children and the teachers. We had two examinations after receiving the textbooks and the results showed very pleasing performance due to the academic improvement seen in almost all the children courtesy of the new textbooks.

The feeding programme for the whole school still continued all through the quarterly term. This has been made possible through the funding of one of our former GVI-Mombasa volunteers.

Within the same month of July, we received three football experts from our boys football team sponsors in Austria. This was to officially start the partnership with the sponsoring body. We had two weeks of very serious training and at the close of their time in Kenya, they introduced to us the new coaches to take over with the training. We have since then observed a great improvement with the training. We have played against several teams on friendly matches and out of the recent four we have won three and lost one.

During the August holidays, we proceeded with the holidays feeding programme which was very successful. We too pulled down a greenhouse structure which we have had for almost ten years and in place of it, we set up a foundation for three new classes, a structure whose construction shall be completed over the next December holidays. Also, some of our sponsored children joined their universities and colleges during the holidays. Two boys joined university and one girl joined a technical college. In the next few days we expect more students to join their colleges under our sponsorship program.

With our chicken project, we have been able to supplement the feeding programme. This is due to availability of eggs from the chicken where the children share in turns. The chicken project began in December last year, and so far we have been able to feed every kid with several eggs within the short time we have been operating.

After the August holidays, we started the third academic term which had been reduced by a week so we could give way to the national census. Turn up of both the children and the members of the staff was quite pleasing where almost every one reported back within the first week.

In September school ran as normal and also carrying out the boys football team training in one of the most decorated stadia in Mombasa and which has been hired for once a week training until the end of the year.

Despite the successes we have had within the quarter, there has been challenges and mainly financial ones which we would humbly request GVI-CT if we could get more funds' allocation so we can be able to settle our bills on time and run the school project run more successful.

Lastly, we would like to thank all the donors and partners for their continued support of Nyota Ing'arayo School..

With Grattitude,

Kenya Education
