Meet One Of Our Scholarship Students

By Leah Crabtree | Project Leader

At Ol Pejeta Conservancy, we are immensely proud of the impact your generosity has on young lives within our communities. Today, we are delighted to share an inspiring update from one of the bright minds you support: Akon.

Akon is the eldest of three children, living with his parents and two younger sisters in the vibrant Minera community. Born in 2008, he is currently pursuing his studies at Ontuli Boys High School. His primary goal is to excel academically. Beyond his studies, he is driven by a deep ambition to achieve success in life, to provide financial support for his family, to give back to his community, and to empower others to reach their full potential.
Looking ahead, Akon's ultimate aspiration is to become an electrical engineer, specialising in electrical appliances. In a world of continuous evolution and rapid technological advancement, he is driven to make a significant contribution to the field of electricity, with the aim of simplifying and improving people's lives.

His fascination with Mathematics, particularly its diverse concepts and powerful problem-solving capabilities, especially in business, has naturally led him to Physics. It is through the practical applications of Physics that his desire to pursue electrical engineering has truly ignited. Even at home, he immerses himself in simple engineering projects, drawing inspiration from websites like Science Max and and DIY Science. He is particularly drawn to projects involving jet engines, transmitters, and receivers – technologies vital to the aircraft industry. Despite occasional challenges with limited resources, his parents are incredibly supportive of his endeavors, and he believes his open-mindedness and quick thinking are valuable assets in these pursuits.

Akon actively serves as a motivational speaker at his church within the community, sharing messages of hope and progress. He is immensely grateful for the scholarship opportunity provided, truly believing it is the key that will enable him to achieve his academic and career goals, allowing him to ultimately support financially unstable individuals in his community and help them realise their own aspirations.

Akon’s journey is a powerful testament to the opportunities created through your commitment. Your commitment to the Ol Pejeta Scholarship Students is not just an investment in an individual; it's an investment in the future of Kenya, fostering a generation of change makers who understand the interconnectedness of conservation and community well-being.
Thank you for being a champion for education and a pivotal part of Akon's remarkable journey. We look forward to sharing more updates on his progress and the success of other scholarship students in the future.
