Dear Supporter,
The first quarter of 2016 has been a great one for the partnership between GVI and The President’s Village Children’s Home.
Our regular weekly snorkels have been as fun as ever. It’s so great to see the confidence of each child increasing so quickly around the water as we play and swim.
The younger boys have been practicing duck-diving. We hold hula hoops at different depths below the water for them to swim through. It’s been a great opportunity for them to practice breath-holding and different swimming techniques.
Some of the younger girls (2-4 years old) are a little less adventurous. They are still just getting used to being in the water, however, it’s been wonderful to see their progress! Their new favorite game is to lay back and relax in the ocean as someone supports their head and gently tows them around in the sea.
As always, it’s so great to have our wonderful volunteers who help out during every snorkel session. Even those volunteers who are a little nervous to begin with end up having a great time getting to meet the kids and learning a bit more about the project. No matter the group, we can always see that it has been a rewarding experience for them all.
In other big news, the home was able to open two new buildings this year. This is exciting for the kids and staff, as they now have a beautiful big dining room which can seat all the children together, and a nursery area full of toys for the youngest in the home.
The older girls were able to move out of one of the smaller houses into a lovely new building with much more space for each of them. The girls were delighted to tell us all about their new rooms during our snorkel trips!
Thanks to your contributions, we have been able to contribute to the new buildings. We have bought and installed solar panels for the rooves of both buildings. This is very exciting news, as it will massively reduce running costs of the home, freeing up more resources so that they will directly benefit the children there. Once they are fully installed, we will hold another Creole Day celebration with all the kids to celebrate.
Thank you for your generous support.
With Gratitude,
GVI Seychelles
