Dear Supporters,
Here at our GVI Cap Ternay base in the Seychelles, our partnership with the President's Village Children’s Home is going as strong as ever.
Our regular snorkel sessions with the kids are always a highlight on Tuesday afternoons. After a big week of dive training and collecting data on the reef, it’s nice to break things up and take some volunteers down to meet the kids at the beach for some silliness.
Although it takes a lot of energy, it’s always a great laugh as we splash around, wrestle, and play, all the while practicing swimming and water safety with the kids. Each volunteer brings something new and different to the sessions, whether it’s their first time or one of many. New games, songs, dances, building sandcastles, or practicing flips may all be on the menu, depending on who shows up each week.
This month we used some of the money that’s been donated to the project to buy new equipment for our snorkel sessions. Amongst many things, we bought a big inflatable crocodile, which has been very popular. We were also able to replace some of our life rings and other swimming aids.
The kids always love it when we get new equipment to play with. A big inflatable beach ball and some floating frisbees have been great additions, and let us play a bunch of new games both in the water and on land.
We also bought some very colourful arm floaties we for the younger kids, who are still getting their confidence up around the water, to use. The floaties not only add fun but are very important for their comfort and safety as well. It’s great to see them practising their swimming strokes and seeing how far they can get with the added support of the floaties.
Although we haven’t had any big events yet this quarter, we are gearing up for Creole Day and one of our fundraising challenges to be announced soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
Thank you for your continued support!
With Gratitude,
GVI Seychelles
