Teachers' Training Strengthens Education

By Michael Turay | EduNations' Education Secretary

Teacher Training
Teacher Training

Thanks to the generous support of our GlobalGiving donors, EduNations successfully completed a three-day teachers’ training program from January 2–4, 2026, empowering educators with the skills, tools, and confidence they need to provide high-quality education for children in rural Sierra Leone.

This training directly supports our goal of improving classroom instruction and long-term student success by investing in the people who matter most—our teachers.

What Happened

The training was held in the Mapainda community and facilitated by experienced instructors from the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education. Teachers from schools across the six communities served by EduNations participated, creating a strong learning community where educators could share experiences, challenges, and solutions.

Each day focused on practical, relevant topics that teachers can immediately apply in their classrooms.

Key Training Highlights

Modern Teaching & Literacy (Day 1)
Teachers explored:

  • Child-centered teaching strategies for diverse learning styles

  • Effective classroom management techniques

  • Improved literacy instruction to help students develop strong reading skills

Professional Ethics & Digital Skills (Day 2)
Sessions emphasized:

  • Ethical responsibilities and integrity in teaching

  • Practical use of digital tools in the classroom

  • How educational research can improve teaching outcomes

Inclusive Education & School Support (Day 3)
Teachers learned:

  • How to support students with diverse learning needs

  • Ways to create inclusive, welcoming classrooms

They also received important updates from EduNations staff on teacher support, sponsorship opportunities, financial stewardship, and the role of social workers in schools.

Why This Matters

Teachers reported increased confidence, renewed motivation, and excitement about implementing what they learned. These skills will directly impact hundreds of students—improving learning environments, literacy outcomes, and overall educational quality.

When teachers are supported, students thrive.

Certificates & Recognition

The training concluded with a certificate ceremony, recognizing each teacher’s commitment to professional growth and excellence. These certificates strengthen their qualifications and affirm their important role in their communities.

Thank You for Making This Possible

This training was made possible because of you—our GlobalGiving donors. Your generosity is helping equip teachers, strengthen schools, and create lasting change for children and families in Sierra Leone.

Thank you for believing in the power of education and investing in those who shape the future every day.
