We are thrilled to share this powerful update with you—a story of hope, progress, and lives saved—made possible because of your unwavering support. Together, we are proving that change is not only possible, it’s happening right now.
Between April 1 and June 30, 2025, EleSense averted 101 deadly elephant-train collisions in Dharanipur (52), Debpara (18), Diana (5), and Red Bank (12)—the very sites where we launched our pilot project in January 2023. These alerts reflect the same elephants crisscrossing these dangerous tracks, their ancient pathways now protected by the system you helped bring to life. (Collage of images gathered from Dharanipur)
And then there is Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary—a place still haunted by the tragedy of a pregnant elephant killed by a speeding train, her calf torn from her womb. That day, we vowed: NEVER AGAIN. Thanks to your support, that vow is becoming a reality. In just three months since installation, EleSense has already averted 14 potential collisions in Chapramari—14 moments where lives were saved, not lost.
And now, thanks to EleSense LIVE, we can show you exactly what your support makes possible. In one of the images, you’ll see elephants circled—a whole herd detected in real time by the camera chip built into EleSense LIVE. The moment their presence was flagged, alerts went to the railway and forest teams, and the train slowed to a crawl. The herd crossed safely. Every single life was spared.
Because of this success, we are now installing these camera chips in Dharanipur, Diana, Red Bank, and Debpara, creating an even stronger shield of protection for the elephants who depend on these corridors.
This is not just technology at work. This is the power of your compassion, proving that together, we can rewrite the fate of these majestic beings—our planet’s irreplaceable eco-engineers.
But there is still more work to do, more herds to protect, and more tragedies to prevent. Please continue to donate, knowing that every dollar you give keeps EleSense alive and expanding—turning close calls into safe crossings, and heartbreak into hope. Meanwhile, in an interview with Orissa Post this World Elephant Day (August 12th), I spoke candidly about the dire situation of Odisha elephants - link below. Stay tuned, we're getting ready to launch a project on GlobalGiving in the coming days...
We look forward to sharing more progress with you as and when it happens. Deep gratitude for your unwavering support, and belief in our noble mission.
Warmly,
Sangita
