In Ethiopia blindness and low vision are more prevalent among females. More girls and women than men are blind due to eye diseases such as trachoma. Trachoma disfigures and blinds three times as many women as men. This blinding eye disease is spread from child to mother through direct personal contact. Without treatment, trachoma leads to blindness.
Every donation supports girls and women like 4-year-old Tesfanesh. In December, she received her annual dose of the antibiotic to prevent trachoma, a potentially blinding infection.
Orbis and local partners in Ethiopia have distributed millions of doses. This long-term initiative —which requires ongoing reliable support —has virtually wiped out trachoma in dozens of districts throughout the southern region of that country.
All children like Tesfanesh deserve the chance to grow up with healthy vision. And with your donations this is made possible. Thank you very much.
