Aussie Wildlife Recovery & Emergency Preparedness

Thank you for supporting our urgent work for wildlife.

What we collectively achieved in 2025 was staggering:

• Over 160,000 native animals were assisted who were in urgent need of rescue
• Opened two new wildlife recovery centres
• Answered 234,000 rescue calls
• Fueled our lifesaving fleet of Wildlife Ambulances across a staggering 270,000 kms
• Lodged 10 submissions to Government calling upon urgent support for Australian wildlife
• Supported over 60 Australian wildlife groups involved in the preservation of Australian habitats and species.

Your support over the past year is helping us make a very direct and tangible difference - both for individual lives, and for the future of their species in the wild.

For tiny joeys like the orphaned antechinus (pictured), a carnivorous marsupial native to Australia, and one of five orphans currently in care with WIRES volunteer Tracy, your support is providing daily specialist Biolac formula. Soon, she'll be weaned onto finely chopped mealworms, insectivore mix, and some native flowers, fruits and leaves before getting ready for release. As a species deeply vulnerable to habitat loss (they often live in the hollows of trees), your support has been a critical safeguard for the future of their species.

Late last year, we also started working with local councils, schools, businesses and community groups to plant and cultivate Wildlife Foodbanks. Wildlife carers often spend hours a day searching for native foliage and browse, and this is getting harder and harder to do, as more native areas are cleared for development.

We've so far planted more than 7,000 native trees with a local council near Sydney, whilst last month we joined with Sydney Wildlife Rescue and another council south-west of Sydney, to plant an additional 500 native shrubs and trees. 

This is just part of a long-term program supporting the health and nutrition of rescued native animals!
