Plastic Ocean is A Huge Issue

By Tyrone Bennett | CEO of Action Change

Dear Friends,

Imagine a shoreline covered in plastic waste — bottles, bags, and fragments choking the life from once vibrant beaches and reefs. It’s a heartbreaking sight that we’ve faced many times, but thanks to your generous support, we’ve been able to change this story.

Over the last few months, your kindness has helped us bring communities together to roll up their sleeves and clear plastic from beaches. These cleanups are more than just removing waste — they are acts of hope and reclaiming space for the marine life that depends on healthy, clean habitats. Each piece of plastic we remove reduces danger to turtles, fish, and seabirds and prevents harmful chemicals from entering the ocean.

We’ve also been out in classrooms and community centers, sharing stories and lessons about why reducing plastic matters. These conversations spark change—encouraging people to rethink single-use plastics and inspiring families to choose sustainable alternatives. The ripple effect of this education means that the fight against plastic pollution continues far beyond the beaches.

Yet the challenge remains enormous. Plastic pollution is relentless, and the oceans need all of us to step up. That’s why your support is so crucial. It allows us to organize more cleanups, reach more communities, and push for policies that protect our seas.

Looking ahead, we’re focused on expanding our reach and deepening our impact. With continued help, we can restore more marine habitats, support local leaders in conservation efforts, and build lasting solutions to plastic pollution.

Save the Date: GlobalGiving Bonus Day – July 16–17

On July 16 and 17, GlobalGiving will host Bonus Day — a special event where donations between $100 and $1,000 share in a $125,000 Incentive Fund. It’s a chance to make your gift go further and bring even greater hope to our oceans.

Thank you for standing with us. Together, we’re turning the tide on plastic pollution — one cleanup, one conversation, one step at a time.
