As we begin 2026, the Safal MRM Foundation continues to strengthen pathways that connect young people in Kilifi to dignified employment, industrial exposure, and entrepreneurial opportunity through the Mabati Technical Training Institute

Building on the momentum of 2025, this year’s focus remains clear: ensuring that training translates into tangible economic opportunity.

2025 Impact Snapshot

In 2025, Mabati Technical Training Institute enrolled and trained 1,033 students, reflecting strong demand for market-relevant technical skills.

Through MTTI’s Career Services Office:

62 youth were linked directly to employment
237 youth secured industrial attachments and internships

These placements provided essential hands-on experience, strengthening school-to-work transitions and improving employability outcomes for Kilifi youth.

2026: Early Progress and Continued Momentum

The year has begun with steady growth and active engagement.

316 new students enrolled in January 2026
125 continuing students advancing in their programs

Industrial Exposure

Within the first two months of 2026 (January & February):

33 students have already been linked to industrial attachments

Early placement ensures trainees gain practical exposure while still in training, increasing their competitiveness in the job market.

This milestone reinforces Mabati Technical Training Institute’s commitment to aligning technical training with industry needs and strengthening employer confidence in our graduates.

Expanding Access Through Recognition of Prior Learning

Mabati Technical Training Institute is currently hosting the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement: NYOTA/NITA Recognition of Prior Learning assessments, with:

Over 100 youth undergoing evaluation

Recognition of Prior Learning enables skilled but uncertified youth to obtain formal recognition of their competencies, significantly improving their employability and earning potential.

The Road Ahead

While enrollment continues to grow, the critical challenge remains scaling job linkages, employer partnerships, and entrepreneurship support to match the number of trained youth entering the workforce.

The demand for industrial placements, startup toolkits, and job matching services continues to exceed current resources.

A Call to Expand Opportunity

With additional funding, we aim to:

Increase the number of youth linked to employment and paid internships
Expand employer partnerships within and beyond Kilifi County
Provide startup toolkits and mentorship for young entrepreneurs
Strengthen our Career Services Office to support structured job matching and follow-up
Establish an Internship Support Fund to assist vulnerable students with transport stipends, enabling them to complete industrial attachments in Mombasa, where most host companies are based.

Every contribution helps move a youth from training into income, from uncertainty into stability.

Together, we can accelerate school-to-work transitions and ensure that skills development translates into sustainable livelihoods for the youth of Kilifi.

Creating Pathways to Employment & Entrepreneurship for Kilifi Youth

Toolkits by KCB Foundation - 2jiajiri Program

The “Employment Opportunities for Kilifi Youth” project continues to transform lives by equipping young people with the skills, exposure, and confidence they need to thrive in the world of work. Through the Mabati Technical Training Institute, the Safal MRM Foundation continues to bridge the gap between classroom learning and meaningful employment. Over 1,033 youth are currently enrolled at Mabati Technical Training Institute, with hundreds benefitting from attachments, job placements, and skills-based empowerment programs that open doors to dignified work and self-reliance.

Recent Progress:

In the last four months, Mabati Technical Training Institute strengthened its industry partnerships and practical training programs to support youth transition from training to employment and entrepreneurship.

Industrial Attachments & Job Linkages:

83 trainees are currently attached to various companies across Kenya, gaining hands-on experience and strengthening their employability. Among them, 40 are beneficiaries of the AutoXpress partnership, undertaking industrial attachments across AutoXpress branches. One graduate has already secured employment at Abson Motors Makupa as a Tuk-tuk mechanic.

Industry Partnerships Creating Pathways:

The AutoXpress Kenya–Dunlop Tyres SA partnership, officially launched this August, has continued to provide structured training for 41 youth including 6 young women in Light Vehicle Mechanics (National Industrial Training Authority Level II & III). This initiative, which began in 2024, not only offers full sponsorship but also includes a three-month paid internship, ensuring real-world work exposure and employment prospects upon completion.

Support from Strategic Partners:

The KCB Foundation’s 2Jiajiri Program sponsored 27 students at a cost of KES 805,350 and awarded 55 graduates with toolkits empowering them to begin self-employment ventures in mechanical, electrical, and construction trades.

Digital Empowerment for Youth:

Through the Applied and Essential Digital Literacy Programs, implemented in collaboration with Angaza Kenya, Mabati Technical Training Institutetrainees and students from Mazeras Girls High School continue to gain practical digital skills in areas such as data literacy, AI, robotics, and cloud computing. The program aims to prepare youth for digital-enabled employment and entrepreneurship in an evolving economy.

Career Acceleration and Skills Readiness:

Five young people began a Career Acceleration Program with Pitman Training Kenya in September, focusing on professional administration, communication, and workplace readiness. This six-month program equips beneficiaries with globally recognized certifications and employability skills for the modern workplace.

As we move forward, the Safal MRM Foundation remains dedicated to equipping young people with the skills, confidence, and networks they need to thrive in an evolving job market. Through our ongoing partnerships with industry leaders and local enterprises, we are not only opening doors to employment but also nurturing a generation of innovators and entrepreneurs who are redefining Kilifi’s economic future.

Advancing Employment Pathways for Kilifi Youth

The Employment Opportunities for 500 Youth in Kilifi project continues to make impactful progress, connecting more young people to practical work experiences and employment opportunities that enhance their livelihoods and contribute to the local economy.

Recent Progress

Between March and June:

83 trainees were placed on industrial attachment across various sectors, gaining essential hands-on skills to strengthen their employability.
13 trainees are set to begin graduate trainee placements at Brollo Kenya Limited, effective 30 June 2025, providing them with structured workplace exposure and growth opportunities.
35 tailoring graduates have been employed at Ashton Apparel, enabling them to utilize their vocational skills immediately in a structured work environment.
6 graduates will commence employment at Kilimanjaro Biscuits on 30 June 2025.

These achievements reflect our ongoing commitment to facilitating practical pathways for youth to transition successfully from training into the workforce.

In the coming months, we aim to:

Expand graduate trainee and job placement opportunities in collaboration with industry partners.
Increase the number of trainees accessing industrial attachments for skill enhancement.
Strengthen pre-employment support and career readiness initiatives to prepare youth for the demands of the workplace.
