School was the start - thanks to you!

By Hayley Holden | Fundraising Officer

Sopheak then and now - thanks to you.
Sopheak then and now - thanks to you.

Thank you for making stories like Sopheak’s possible.
For Sopheak*, education opened a door she thought had closed forever.

In 2010, she joined our catch-up education programme. The programme helps children who missed school due to poverty to catch up with their peers. At the time, Sopheak was a quiet, determined girl from a family facing deep financial struggles. School was the first step toward something better.

“I knew education was my best chance to help my family and create a different future.”

Many young people in Cambodia drop out before finishing school. Over 55% leave by age 17, according to UNICEF. But Sopheak kept going and finished high school in 2020.

With your support and ISF’s help, she then enrolled in university.

She supported herself with her first part-time job as a barista - earning just enough to stay in school, buy her books, and send some money home. It wasn’t easy, but she was proud to be doing it on her own.

Last year, Sopheak graduated with a degree in Hotel and Tourism Management. Today, she works full-time in sales at a large company. She feels stable, confident, and hopeful about what lies ahead.

“Thank you for supporting young people like me. Your generosity has changed my life. I’ll never forget it.”

Because of supporters like you, Sopheak and hundreds of children like her have not only started their education but also gone on to complete it. They are opening doors to brighter futures.

Your ongoing support continues to open doors for young people like Sopheak.

Together, we can help more children build hopeful, stable futures through education.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
