Empower Education in Rural Ethiopia

We are immensely grateful for your continued support of Empower Education in Rural Ethiopia. Your donations are directly transforming lives at Makod Primary School, where overcrowded and damaged classrooms have long hindered learning for over 2,000 students and 150 adults in evening programs. By funding permanent classrooms, school supplies, and community engagement activities, you are creating safer, more effective learning environments and empowering the entire community to break cycles of poverty.

In recent months, we have made steady progress toward our goal of building 40 permanent classrooms for children (reducing class sizes to the recommended 30 students per room) and 10 additional rooms for adult education. Thanks to your generosity:

Classroom construction: Site preparation and foundational work for the first 8 classrooms is complete. This has already allowed us to move some classes out of makeshift structures, reducing congestion and improving focus for hundreds of students.

School materials: Desks, books, and teaching aids have been distributed to 500 children, boosting attendance and participation, especially among girls who face additional barriers.

Community engagement: Workshops involving parents, teachers, and local leaders emphasized the importance of girls’ education, addressing early marriage and household responsibility norms. Over 200 participants, including many women, joined discussions fostering trust and shared commitment to school retention.

These efforts not only improve educational access but also strengthen community cohesion and gender equity, critical for long-term success in rural Ethiopia. We are already seeing inspiring results: higher enrollment for girls, fewer dropouts due to overcrowding, and stronger parental involvement.
