It's been a very difficult week for Nepal again - huge rainfall came with the monsoon and caused flooding. So far almost 100 people are dead as a result of the flooding and hundreds lost their houses. There are many landslides on the roads outside of Kathmandu so at the moment we cannot get to any of the projects.
Our boys at the Birgunj home are fine - the city got flooded but our home is in the village nearby, amongst rice fields, so everyone is safe.
The local elections in Butwal have finished so we should now be able to start the legal process to register a new home over there for street children. Once the roads are clear and once it is safe for us to travel, we will be going there to begin searching for appropriate building and to start the paperwork. That might take a couple of months or so, but we are getting closer and closer to helping those children that need our help the most.
We are now recruiting new staff who will stay at our Birgunj home for a couple of months to get trained so that everyone is ready to start the new project as soon as possible. We will be trying to recreate the successful Birgunj model home in Butwal.
We will be sending regular updates and hopefully we will be able to bring some exciting news with the next report.
