Time for the young: Understand. Debate. Act

We are starting a new project in February. The "Understand. Debate. Act" project develops civic competences and resilience to disinformation among students from four secondary schools in the Ek and Olecko counties in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. The project addresses the needs of young people living in an environment of low social trust, information overload, and insufficient digital and media literacy. A series of workshops on global education, countering inequality and disinformation will be held in the secondary schools, and students, supported by educators, will develop their own mini-civic initiatives promoting social responsibility and local cooperation. Workshops will also be held to prepare students for Oxford debates, including argumentation, dialogue, data work, and source credibility analysis. Students will participate in argumentative sparring and a local Oxford Debating Tournament, whose theses will address social responsibility, trust in institutions, and informed use of information. The project engages the local community through school events, mini-grants, and a tournament, and the results will be disseminated in informational materials. Participants will develop key civic competencies: informed decision-making, critical thinking, dialogue skills, resistance to manipulation, and a willingness to act for the community.

Od lutego ruszamy z nowym projektem. Projekt „Zrozumiec. Debatowac. Dzialac” rozwija kompetencje obywatelskie i odpornosc na dezinformacje wsród uczniów 4 szkól srednich w powiatach elckim i oleckim w województwie warminsko-mazurskim. Projekt odpowiada na potrzeby mlodych ludzi funkcjonujacych w srodowisku niskiego zaufania spolecznego, nadmiaru informacji oraz niewystarczajacych kompetencji cyfrowych i medialnych. W szkolach srednich zostanie zrealizowany cykl warsztatów z edukacji globalnej, przeciwdzialania nierównosciom i dezinformacji a uczniowie, wspierani przez edukatorów, przygotuja wlasne mini-inicjatywy obywatelskie promujace odpowiedzialnosc spoleczna i wspóprace lokalna. Odbeda sie równiez warsztaty przygotowujace do debat oksfordzkich – obejmujace argumentacje, dialog, prace z danymi i analize wiarygodnosci zródel. Mlodziez wezmie udzial w sparingach argumentacyjnych oraz lokalnym Turnieju Debat Oksfordzkich, którego tezy beda dotyczyc odpowiedzialnosci spolecznej, zaufania do instytucji i swiadomego korzystania z informacji. Projekt angazuje spolecznosc lokalna poprzez wydarzenia w szkolach, mini-granty i turniej, a rezultaty dziaan beda upowszechnione w formie materialów informacyjnych. Uczestnicy rozwina kluczowe kompetencje obywatelskie: swiadome podejmowanie decyzji, krytyczne myslenie, umiejetnosc dialogu, odpornosc na manipulacje oraz gotowosc do dzialania na rzecz wspólnoty.

The power of argument for teens

As part of our Association's activities, we have been committed for many years to developing the skills of young people, especially those from rural areas. We recognize how important it is for young people to have the opportunity to express their opinions, formulate rational arguments, and verify sources of information. Contemporary challenges, such as fake news, demonstrate the importance of education in critical thinking and the art of discussion.

Following the exciting third edition of the Oxford Debates, we are preparing for the next round of events. More schools are preparing for the fierce competition. Each debate provides unforgettable experiences for both the debaters and the audience. Our project enables youth engagement and demonstrates the importance of education in shaping future leaders. Schools from the Ek district in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship are participating in the project.

W ramach dziaalnosci naszego Stowarzyszenia, od wielu lat angazujemy sie w rozwój kompetencji modziezy, zwaszcza tej z terenów wiejskich. Zdajemy sobie sprawe, jak wazne jest, aby modziez miaa mozliwosc wyrazania swojego zdania, formuowania racjonalnych argumentów i weryfikowania zróde informacji. Wspóczesne wyzwania, takie jak fake newsy, pokazuja jak istotna jest edukacja w zakresie krytycznego myslenia i sztuki dyskusji.

Po emocjonujacej III edycji Debat Oxfordzkich, przygotowujemy nastepne spotkania. Kolejne szkoy szykuja sie do zacietej rywalizacji. Kazda debata dostarcza niezapomnianych emocji zarówno debatantom jak i publicznosci. Nasze przedsiewziecie umozliwia zaangazowanie modziezy oraz pokazuje jak wazna jest edukacja w ksztatowaniu przyszych liderów. W projekcie biora udzia szkoy z powiatu eckiego w województwie Warminsko-mazurskim.

The power of argument for teens

“Such skills of arguing your thesis, supporting with concrete examples, engaging in the search for these arguments, not emotional just such factual and substantive is extremely important, because it simply prepares you for life,” - a participant in the debates.

We have just concluded the third edition of the Mazury Oxford Debate League – a powerful initiative that nurtures courage, civic responsibility, and the voice of the younger generation.

Four high schools from Ek formed debate teams ranging from 5 to 25 members. Each team took part in intensive training workshops focused on the art of debating – from building strong arguments and practicing critical thinking, to verifying facts and working in teams. We also trained teachers to support the students in their preparation and established a qualified panel of judges.

In April 2025, we organized the semi-finals and the final of the league. The tournament-style format – with random matchups and assigned sides – brought an extra layer of excitement. The topics were timely and thought-provoking. In the semi-finals, teams debated the statement: “Cash should be entirely replaced by digital payments.” The final debates explored another compelling thesis: “Basic economic knowledge is more important in life than familiarity with school literature.”

This was more than a competition – it was a school of democracy, argumentation, and collaboration. For the youth, the debates offered a space to develop life-long skills in public speaking, reasoning, fact-checking, and teamwork.

Sila argumentu w rekach mlodych

„Takie umiejetnosci argumentowania swojej tezy, popierania konkretnymi przykladami, angazowania sie w poszukiwania tych argumentów, nie emocjonalnych tylko takich rzeczowych i merytorycznych jest niezwykle istotne, bo po prostu przygotowuje do zycia” – uczestniczka debat.

Za nami III edycja Mazurskiej Ligi Debat Oksfordzkich – inicjatywy, która buduje odwage, rozwija glos mlodego pokolenia i uczy, jak mówic, by byc uslyszanym.

Cztery szkoly srednie z Elku stworzyly druzyny debatanckie liczace od 5 do 25 osób. Kazda z tych grup przeszla intensywne warsztaty uczace sztuki debatowania – od budowania argumentów, przez krytyczne myslenie, po rzetelna weryfikacje faktów. Przeszkolilismy takze kadre pedagogiczna, by mogla na co dzien wspierac mlodziez w przygotowaniach oraz powolalismy profesjonalne jury.

W kwietniu 2025 roku zorganizowalismy pólfinaly i final ligi. Turniejowy charakter debat – z losowaniem druzyn i stron sporu – nadal wydarzeniu dodatkowych emocji. Tematy byly aktualne i wymagajace. W pólfinalach uczniowie mierzyli sie z teza: „Gotówka powinna zostac calkowicie zastapiona przez platnosci cyfrowe”. Final przyniósl kolejna intelektualna rozgrywke: „Podstawowa wiedza ekonomiczna jest wazniejsza w zyciu niz znajomosc lektur szkolnych”.

To nie tylko rywalizacja – to prawdziwa szkola demokracji, argumentacji i wspólpracy. Udzial w debatach byl dla mlodziezy przestrzenia rozwoju kompetencji, które beda ich kapitalem na cale zycie.
