Food Rations Efforts Accelerate as Eid Approaches - 450 Inner City Families Served

Food Rations Efforts Accelerate as Eid Approaches - 450 Inner City Families in Zia Colony, Karachi, Pakistan Served

As the month of Ramadan has swiftly entered the last few precious days, the HOPE Team has been working even harder to provide Food Rations to underprivileged families in time for Eid ul Fitr. This week, 450 students of HOPE's Zia Colony Formal School (catering to an underserved inner city area in Karachi, Pakistan) received Food Rations. These efforts took place at HOPE's Zia Colony Hospital and were sponsored by the generosity of our donors.

Zia Colony is a bustling inner city neighborhood within the metropolitan hub of Karachi. The residents of Zia Colony live at/below the poverty line and face hardships that are part and parcel of urban slum regions throughout Pakistan. For over two decades, HOPE has had a dominant presence in Zia Colony via the presence of a Hospital, Formal School, Maternal and Child Health Center, and Vocational Training Center. These services are designed to uplift residents and provide them with the necessary tools to break free from the tenacious grips of poverty. We are proud to say that many of our success stories come out of Zia Colony and with the adequate support, many community members have gone on to stand on their own two feet.

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Mrs. Bilquis and MGYW for sponsoring Food Rations for 50 families of Zia Colony School. MGYW is an organization that has been sponsoring ESL and educational efforts for 30 girls who attend Zia Colony Formal School for several years.

Door-to-Door Iftars Reach Northern Areas of Pakistan - Featuring Yusuf Foundation

Saving Maternal & Infant Lives - Door-to-Door Iftars Reach Northern Areas of Pakistan - Featuring Yusuf Foundation

Historically, remote mountain regions and rural villages of Pakistan such as the Northern Areas, have adversely higher Maternal and Infant Morbidity rates due to lack of access to health facilities for the poor. Over the past few years, Yusuf Foundation has put its trust in HOPE to make a dent in these underserved regions. By constructing three Maternal and Child Health Centers in the Northern Areas and sponsoring a fourth in Azad Kashmir, Yusuf Foundation has made a tremendous impact in regions which were previously devoid of health facilities for the poor. All in all, their efforts have brought free healthcare to over 120,000 villagers annually, with all four centers operating 24/7 currently.

HOPE/Yusuf Foundation's MCHCs offer the following services to underserved villagers:

Maternal and prenatal care

Normal births

Pediatric care

Pharmacy providing medicines free of charge

IV drips for dehydration

Diagnostic services (ultrasounds, labs, etc.)

Infertility treatments

Breastfeeding consultants

Family planning services

Awareness programs for diseases such as hepatitis, hypertension, diabetes

The mere presence of a health facility in village communities in the Northern Areas has brought hope to tens of thousands of villagers. Previously, expectant mothers would labor at home; if complications arose during the birthing process, oftentimes precarious consequences would occur because health facilities were too far away to traverse. Even if getting to one in time was a possibility, villagers living below poverty levels were not in a position to afford medical treatment. Now, villagers have access to preventative and routine healthcare as well as emergency services. Undoubtedly, Yusuf Foundation's venture has saved the lives of untold mothers and children. By providing healthcare free of cost to those living in poverty in four villages, they have paved the way for access to essential services, thus bridging the gap between loss and favorable outcomes to thousands.

Sit-Down Iftar Held for 400 Underprivileged Children - Celebrating 20 Years of Thatta Formal School

Sit-Down Iftar Held for 400 Underprivileged Children in HOPE's Thatta, Karachi Formal School - Celebrating 20 Years of Thatta Formal School

On March 3, 2026, 400 students from HOPE's Thatta Formal School participated in a Sit-down Iftar with their classmates and teachers. The students enjoyed breaking their fast in a community setting and sharing the special moments of Ramadan with one another. The children were served biryani, egg rolls , samosas, bananas, and dates, and a special drink to break their fasts and gathered together for the Maghrib prayer. All in all it was an evening full of camaraderie and bonding.

Every year HOPE aims to make Ramadan memorable for thousands of underserved children and families across Pakistan. From Door-to-Door Iftars, Food Rations, Eid Clothes, and Sit-down Iftars, we endeavor to celebrate the spirit of charity by amplifying our efforts during this month.

Thatta (over an hour away from the metropolitan hub of Karachi), is one of the larger districts in the state of Sindh, Pakistan based on land area, but its impoverished constituents suffer due to the lack of health, educational, and vocational training facilities for the needy. HOPE’s Formal School in Thatta had a humble beginning adjacent to the HOPE Thatta Hospital (similar to the Formal School in Zia Colony). Initially, there were only 60 students in four classrooms up till fifth grade and a limited number of teachers. In 2006, three individual philanthropists pooled together to support the construction of a large school building. Today, HOPE’s Formal School in Thatta supports 600 students until high school. Most of the students come from impoverished backgrounds and are the children of farmers and laborers. The operations of HOPE's Thatta Formal School are supported by the generosity of our donors.
