As part of our commitment to the continuous professional development of our staff, Empowering Women of Nepal and 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking, with support from the Volunteer Niki, a certified Wilderness First Aid Trainer, organised an intensive three-day Wilderness First Aid (WFA) training from June 18-20, 2025. This program was designed to elevate the skills and competencies of 18 of our trekking guides, providing them with the advanced medical knowledge required to lead with authority and ensure the highest standards of safety in the Himalayas. The training went beyond basic first aid, focusing on complex decision-making and hands-on skills essential for their careers. Guides mastered critical response techniques for trauma, splinting, and bleeding control, as well as the management of high-stakes environmental emergencies like severe altitude sickness, hypothermia, and heat stroke.
The outcomes of this professional development initiative were outstanding. The most significant result was a profound increase in professional confidence, with the guides’ average self-assessed ability to handle a medical emergency soaring by 30%. This boost in confidence is crucial for a guide’s career, as it directly translates into stronger leadership, more informed decision-making under pressure, and a higher level of client trust. The guides' request for more frequent refreshers further underscores their commitment to upholding professional excellence. By investing in this training, we have not only enhanced their life-saving skills but have also empowered them with the credibility and competence needed to advance their careers and solidify their reputations as elite professionals in the trekking industry.
