Project Summary: This project aims to empower and assist economically disadvantaged individuals living with disabilities in Kumba, through skill development, micro-grants, and entrepreneurial support. By facilitating vocational training and providing financial resources, we will encourage self-sufficiency and resilience among participants, improving their quality of life and fostering community inclusivity.
The problem faced by people living with disabilities in the Kumba South West Region of Cameroon involves significant socio-economic challenges, including high unemployment rates, limited access to education and vocational training, inadequate healthcare services, and societal stigma. These factors contribute to the marginalization of individuals with disabilities, restricting their ability to achieve independence and participate fully in their communities.
The project aims to address these issues by implementing a comprehensive economic empowerment program. Key components will include vocational training tailored to the skills and interests of individuals with disabilities, access to microfinance services to support entrepreneurial initiatives, and awareness campaigns to reduce stigma and promote inclusivity in the workplace. By equipping individuals with disabilities with marketable skills and fostering an inclusive environment for handicaps.
The potential long-term impact of this project could be transformative for the Kumba community. Economic empowerment can lead to greater financial independence for individuals with disabilities, enabling them to support themselves and their families. Over time, as these individuals gain confidence and assert their rights, societal attitudes towards disabilities may shift, fostering a more inclusive culture. Additionally, increased economic participation contributes to local economic growth.
