It has been a very cold winter with lots of snow in our region this year! The snow was so deep that it made outdoor programs too difficult to run, unfortunately. However, we have one great program to report on -- a recent Inclusive Maple Sugaring Adventure that we hosted in partnership with our local school district's Special Education Parent Teacher Organization. Thirty neurodivergent kids and their caregivers attended the hands-on educational program at Trailside Nature Museum, located in Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. Everyone learned how to identify Sugar Maple trees, and why late winter is the best time to collect sap to make syrup. The group also got to take turns tapping a tree and placing a bucket on it to collect sap.
We are so grateful to our generous supporters who make these programs possible, allowing us to hire qualified educators to help us achieve our goal of linking people with the land in Lewisboro. With spring around the corner, we are excited to schedule many more programs for persons living with disabilites and other challenges.
Until our next report, we hope you #GetOutside and enjoy the wellness benefits of nature!
